As locals and 20+ years of experience in the industry, we know Texas Golf Coast weather challenges inside out. We lift houses to keep them safe from severe weather and moisture problems. House lifting gives you protection from soil erosion, foundation settling, and even termite infestations. Raising your home means a barrier against ground-level threats
House Lifting Services: What is it and Why do it?
Your house is probably the most stable thing in your entire world. It is supposed to be your safe place, your refuge, and the place where you can relax and be happy. Why, then, would you even consider lifting it? And is that even possible? Among our other activities revolving around foundations and general house stability, we at Terrafirm are house lifting contractors, and we do it for a variety of reasons.
One popular reason, particularly on the Texas Gulf Coast, is to provide protection from flooding. House raising companies became better known after hurricanes in the early 2000s resulted in many homes in Louisiana and elsewhere being ruined by flooding. With the Gulf Coast being similarly vulnerable to flooding, many people are now looking into the option of taking their house off its existing foundations and lifting it a few feet so that marauding water can’t inundate the place.
But flooding is not the only reason house-lifting contractors are busy these days. In certain cases, the foundations need extensive repair and the only way to gain access to them is by raising the house temporarily. Before lifting a house became possible, if you had bad foundations you were stuck with a rickety house, but not anymore. Now you breathe in, lift, and get the foundations fixed, then replace the building, as good as new.
There are different types of foundations and the work you need may depend largely on what is down there already. We can have a look and advise you of the options. If you have little issues such as doors sticking and floors becoming uneven, the only way to resolve them may be to lift the building so we can work on the foundations.
The Only Way is Up – or is it Down?
Raising the house can also be a way of increasing the size of the building. Traditionally you would build on top or on the sides, but if the structure is not suitable for these approaches, through lack of site space or the existing house wouldn’t support the weight of an extra floor, but you really want to stay in that place, maybe you could lift it, build a new ground floor and put the old building back on top. It may seem like a radical idea, but it can be done. We’ve done it.
